Updating the Global Address Book in Outlook on Windows. The Global Address Book (GAL) is a directory of available contact information for CUMC, NYPH and Columbia University faculty, staff and students. I have two Exchange 2016 servers and a single domain controller. Something during the setup must have messed something up and now i can't download the address book from outlook .IT gets stuck saying "updating address book" I know that in exchange 2010 you could see the address book settings in the EMC but I can't find it anywhere. The contents of the four LS Address Book Server informational events show the triggered update and the results. The number of OC delta files written” shows that 40 new contacts were created, reflecting the new user accounts previously added into Active Directory and enabled for Lync Server. If you are still using Outlook 2002/XP or previous, the file names won’t have a “u” in front of their name. You’ll have to rename them all to .old or, in the case of Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2013, rename the folder containing the oab-files to .old to reset the local Offline Address Book. While you may have sorted your Contacts folder the way you want it to, the Address Book in Outlook has its own sorting mechanism. The separation can be quite confusing some times and the options which control the sorting order aren’t all located in the same location either, which can make things even more confusing. Microsoft Outlook has many new features and enhancements that are related to the offline address book. By default, Outlook uses a cached mode configuration. I noticed that a new email address was not showing up in the global address list in Outlook 2010 for a few executives. Some initial investigation resulted in pointing the finger at the offline address book. If you want the ability to use a shared contact folder as an address book, vote for the suggestion in Outlook Uservoice at Add the feature to show shared contacts in the user’s Address Book in Outlook 2016.If the suggestion gets enough votes, Microsoft will consider adding it to a future version. Dear EE Well, the title kinda says it all. I got a hybrid setup with Exchange 2010 and Office 365. If I create a distribution group on premise it does sync to Office 365 and is available in the global address list but for some reason, the offline address book is not updating. Yes, this is old news and there’s about 462 blog entries (ok, that’s a made up number, but there are a lot) about how to force Communicator 2007 R2 to do an Address Book (Galcontacts.db) update.
